Faqs
How do I prepare for my acupuncture session?
It’s important to wear loose clothing, and layer it. Most clients wear sweatpants, loose shorts, or a tank top. Primarily we will need access to ankles, wrists, lower legs and arms. Make sure you have had at least a small bite to eat before your session. It’s important to be nourished as your system is balancing itself throughout the acupuncture session, and afterwards. Come well hydrated and bring a water bottle. Do not consume any alcohol before your session.
Do you accept insurance?
At this time we do not take insurance. Most HSA and FSA plans will reimburse you for some or all of the cost of your appointments. For that we can provide you with a superbill of your treatment plan’s sessions, but you would need to check with your plan first.
I’m scared of needles? How can you help me?
If this is your first time and you are interested in acupuncture, we can take a few extra minutes on your first session to bring any comfort and address your concerns. We can look at the needles together if this helps you. They are single-use, disposable stainless steel. The diameter is comparable to the size of a human hair. They are ultra thin by needle standards. Acupressure and Tui Na (specialized massage similar to shiatsu), and essential oils can be used to support your wellness, if you choose to forgo the needles.
What can I expect from my first treatment/intake?
Acupuncture is applied as a series of treatments in order to support the resolution of your chief complaint while bringing your body back into harmony. Even with one treatment alone, you may experience stress relief and increased relaxation. That is the most common response for even one treatment. However, a series of no less than 6-10 treatments is highly recommended to get to the root of your concerns and begin to resolve your symptoms. You may consider purchasing a package.
Your first session is 90 min and will include a detailed discussion about your health history using the questionnaire that you have already completed before your first session. We will need to assess your current symptoms and any medications or supplements you are taking. Sessions usually include Chinese medicine diagnostics such as viewing tongue and taking the pulse at the wrist. For certain orthopedic conditions, an evaluation of posture, range of motion and pain response to movement is part of the intake assessment. A recommended treatment plan will be given to you based on the findings. Additional surveys and questionnaires may be given based on your specific condition in the beginning, middle, and post treatment to monitor progress.
